v7 License issues.

I have just imported my v5/v6 license into v7.

This kills the HTTP Proxy in v7 as my v6 license does not include "Web Security".

(In v6 Web Security applied to Surf Protection only, not the functioning of the actual Proxy server).

So, now with my v6 license in v7 I can't use the web proxy at all...

Is this by design?  Upgraded systems should have same functionality as older versions...

    Any news on this?

    This may impact our use of Astaro corporate wide.

    None of our ASL systems had Surf Protection.  So, to maintain the SAME functionality I had with v6 in v7 I have to spend money for a Web Security subscription for each license we have.

    100IP Head Office - Add $3250.50 AUS
    25IP License in Russia - Add $1240 AUS
    10IP License in Brisbane - Add $620 AUS
    10IP License in South Africa - Add $620 AUS

    Total: $5730.50 just to maintain functionality we have now with v6.

    We are paying maintenance, we should be able to upgrade to v7 without cost.

    This is also kind of illegal under Australian law under 'bait and switch' type legislation.
    (Whereby an item is sold at $X then terms are changed to charge more for same thing).

    Quick answer appreciated.

    I do believe they moved the HTTP Proxy feature under the Web Security license.  I've never turned on the proxy without having subscribed to the Web Security feature in the past, but I guess there might be some that used it anyway.

    I'd say a LOT used it that way.

    The HTTP proxy was very useful in and of itself.  I didn't see a need for filtering the content.

    I deal with commercial customers, who invariably always purchased the content filtering... so you might be right; most of my customers chose the product because it bundled IPS with Anti-Spam and Web content filtering.

    "Hi Simon,
    For version 7 they have changed the licensing where it will be required to purchase SecureWeb in order to use the http proxy, if there is no subscription for a feature it will be disabled. Your maintenance does entitle you to updates; however I can not change your license to enable the http proxy for version 7, unless you pay for SecureWeb."

    So... in one breath they say I'm entitled to updates, then in the next that I can't have it unless I pay extra for SecureWeb.

    Not happy Jan... Saga continues.

    I had an expired ver 6 home power user license which I could not upgrade so I had to log into my astaro with a new user ID and get a new account and get a version 7 license. Secure Web was included. Maybe that is what you need to do?

    i have the new version 7 and i tried the fix and it still doesn't work for me. Sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't. Just did a fresh install and nothing. No stats on any pages whatsoever.

    Each ASG comes with a list of basic features like routing, vpn, packet filter, etc. for which we already pay a fixed price when we buy the licence or the appliance. Then we pay a yearly up2date fee in order to get support and upgrades to these basic features. I can understand that we must pay yearly fees for services like antivirus and spam protection, because Astaro provides us with signature updates. But if we use http proxy without antivirus, I don't understand why we should now pay an extra yearly licence ! 

    I will have great difficulties to explain this to our customers...

    Hi there, 

    just as a small reminder.

    The home use license was always limited to max. 10 IP's behind the firewall. So there is no change in that.

    We even extended the home use licenseand give you guys Web- and Email Filtering as well es Email-Encryption completly free, inluding instant pattern updates.

    This means free Anti-Virus, free Anti-Spam, free URL-Filter, ... etc.

    The 10 means ten devices behind the firewall communicating with or through the asg device. We only count the last seven days.
