[BETA] ASL 5.050 Experience

hi guy's
just installed 5.050 on 2 machines and played a bit around with it.
untill now it doesn't show up any big problems for me.
 i think i'm only looking over a feature:

 o Bandwidth monitoring capabilities with notifications if bandwidth usage
exceeds/below defined percentage

i can't find it anywhere until now any idea ?
and how is it working for u ?

    please have a look at Networks >> Interfaces >> Monitor interface usage

    I turned it on my external interface (eth1) and I now am noticing that the network usage report graphs have stopped for lo, eth0, and eth1. The nic is a D-Link DFE-530TX rev A.

    update:I turned off the bandwidth monitoring on eth1 and the network graphs were still coming across blank. I rebooted and now the graphs are working again. I will try to duplicate this again.

    update:I will need to wait on trying to duplicate this because after the reboot the graph is showing a 57M spike which is drowning out the rest of the graph. Don't know what happened there? Everything else is working great!!

    Hi guys

    Installed beta yesterday and tried to rebuild rulebase etc from backup that I made on my 5.027 machine.  What a bad idea.  when I uploaded the file to the beta after 30 seconds my IE asked me if I wanted to display non secure pages (It lost connection) On the Astaro console I got an RSA error saying the name was incorrect, even though I named the beta the same as the previous one, a reboot did not help.  I had to rebuild and config manually.  Not a great start.

    Also Astaro why are we going back in time?  On my Video card I now need to use the NOSPLASH boot to get the screen info.  This I believe was fixed in 5.005!!!  Can you please learn from previous mistakes?  It may make your life easier and ours with less up2dates to fix previously resolved issues.

    Last thing.  When are we going to get more control over the default content filter rules??

    Other than that I have found the beta to be quite stable.  Thumbs up to Astaro.  Still don't understand why you can not stablize 5.0x before moving to 5.1 with new features.

    I went ahead and tried it again with the same results. After turning on the bandwidth monitoring the network reporting graphs quit logging. Check it out here. You will see that I turned on the monitoring at 01:30 and the graphs quit. When I rebooted the ASL the next day the graphs came back with the bandwidth monitoring still enabled (reboot not shown in graphs).

    Backed up, stuck new ISO in, install, reboot. Restore backup, reboot. 13 minutes back up and running again, bloody brilliant !

    (Athlon 2500+, 1GB RAM, IDE 7200RPM HDD).

    Impressed with the beta!  Seems to be running nicely and the new spam checks are great!  (Could use some more documentation however, like, what is the greylisting time period?  Could we get an option to set this? BATF should be better explained too?  Does an SPF check block an email or just increase it's spam score?)

    Looks like the spiking graphs are fixed too!

    You can find the draft for the BATV RFC  here. Basically its used to reject bounce messages not sent by you as an example. Some worm or spammer forges an email with you address and fires it off. Let's say it bounces as a virus or spam at the recipients end. The message comes back and normally ends in your mailbox. With BATV, all messages are signed using a shared key and some time varying info to encode a hash of the address. When the bounce comes back, if the recipient is not ok, meaning that the email address was incorrectly or not signed, the proxy doesn't accept the message.

    Nope, it will just block the email.

    Greylisting entries become valid after five minutes and expire after a week when they are not "refreshed" (so regular email contacts will not be subject to further delays).
