Thanks to all testing version 5.024...

Since aboute two hours my 5.024 is running stable. Okay, the alicd-problem is still unresolved, but I didn't notice further new problems.
We started with ASL 2 and when I remeber, this new system has become very complex. All in all the ASTARO-Team has made a good job.
You are right, that they should inform us better and I also would like to see more ATARO-presence here in this forum. Maybe the whole team is involved finding the alicd-problem.
As long as this isn't solved, the ASTARO doesn't count the IPs coorectly. Every time, I got a mail with patter-updates or so, only 2 of possible 50 IPs are recognised.

I also thing that the communications from the astaro team could be a lot better. A lot of people are testen the new releases, trying to pin point the problem and report it to Astaro. It's not clear if the Astaro team is doing anything with it and that is frustrating.
I thing i would be a great help if the problems and bugs reported in the forums are followed up. And that whe can see that there is some sort of followup. Maybe just a simple link from a forum thread to a buglist.
And talking about the buglist  http://docs.astaro.org/Known_Issues-ASL-V5.txt is not up to date and the Astaro team makes it look like they don't take there work serous.

I'm not complaining because i dont like the product, i'm placing my comment beause i like the product and i want to improve the product.

Even worse: I have seen a lot of post in the forum in which user announced problems  with version 5.023, but I’ve never seen a statement or verification from ASTARO.

I completely agree, and I am about to go back to Ver. 5.22 myself. I posted a problem with 5.23 yesterday (POP3 Spam Whitelist), and I have a feeling I may not hear anything from Astaro about it. You don't happen to be using the "whitelist" function of Spam filtering for POP3 in  5.22 do you? I'd be interested to see if it works properly. Any email address or extension I put in the Whitelist of ver. 5.23, does not work. It keeps lableling our web orders as *SPAM*!  

Anyway, I also agree with everyone that a BugTracking system would be quite beneficial for Astaro and US (thier customers)!

Graphs in 5.02X are all still spiking at reboots.. Makes looking at historical data in the graphs useless.

To be honest, I’m not so happy about the last updates. It seems that ASTARO is using us as a large test environment. BTW – Version 5 is not a BETA any more. They should test the updates better before they role it out.
I personally will wait next time a little bit longer to install the received updates.

Please do not misunderstand my post. I like the product. It is the best I tested yet. I don’t like the behavior to let the user uninformed.

heh..v5 has never really truly come out of beta IMHO.  They need to just stop patching and go through all the code fix everything(take their time) and then issue a new version AND iso.

YEP! It does seem as Astaro is using us as a testing ground. Oddly, you would think they would encourage this tesing by communicating on this board. But with all the recent negative feedback and very little participation from Astaro, I see less and less activity around here. And IMHO, that can only hurt the progression of this product. With "free" products like Thunderbird and Firefox, there is a huge amount of support from moderators and of course Bugtracking. And it is free and they admit it's in beta. But you would think there would be less support for a product that is free than one that you pay for! [:S]

I hope they (Astaro) are not trying to encourage people to pay for the "support" service by not replying to our questions and feedback here. That would certainly be a pity.

It's all getting rather painful.

ASL staff don't "appear" to be looking in here often.

v5 is still buggy.  Yes it works and does it's job but the quality of up2dates and the limited feedback on the known problems list, no bugtrack facility etc is all getting rather tiresome.

Also the IPSEC client... Doesn't work with XP SP2 and no new release is likely since the product was sold.

Not to mention the licensing review and current cost of ASL.

I mean issues like the graphs spiking on reboot/resets have been known for a long time....  I'm seeing new stuff being added to functionality before old bugs are fixed.

Holding off on buying anymore licenses till these issues are sorted out.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I also agree.  With both version 5.023 & 5.024, I had numerous e-mail error alerts which said a couple services failed, and rebooted, and finally failed to reboot.  All the while, network access beyond the firewall out to the internet did not work.  For educational purposes & for sake of arguement, both times I left the firewall alone & walked away for about 45minutes.  When I came back, still, no internet and more "service failed to restart/reboot something".  

Anyways, long story short, both updates REQUIRED a HARD REBOOT to get the firewall functioning again.  This, in and of itself, was fine for me, since I'm a home user and I am the only one affected.

BUT, had I just updated a corporate & remote branch ASL installs, I would have been screwed, as all network traffic would have been down until someone could PHYSICALLY cycle power on the box.

Thanks to these restarts, I also am still having the huge spikes in all the network graphs, which makes them next to useless.  There's gotta be a way to "drop" figures from the graphs which are extremely short, intermitten spikes which are exponentially higher than the maxium traffic ever seen by the firewall.

Is there anyone from Astaro who read's this and want to give us some comment on it?
