interesting(weird?) ASL webadmin behavior

I've tried it and I don't have this issue, I'm using Astaro 5.011..

Can you check under the Users definition menu and check if you only have "admin" ?

yeppers..the only user def i have in the webmin is admin..i jsut reset hte password but the loginusr pass still works

Tried it on our 5.011 firewall here and I can't reproduce this problem.  Whew, that's a weird one, William!

Do the first six characters of both passwords match? Is the password even longer than six?
(I did not want to presume the number of asterisks used above match the number of characters used, as reasonable an assumption as that might be...)

this happens to me too, if the all the characters of your webaddmin password match it will log in, and when we check the login userit shows is webadmin.

yes the first 6 do match..if that is the case then i would take that as an issue(looks like i will have to change my admin pass)...however the two should not be lumped together..Office Defender this is on 4.022...v5 does not have this issue that i found.  

Would like to hear from Astaro on this one...I am sure i am not hte only one who has done this..not sure if others have found it though..[:)]

This is common Linux behavior I think.  There is some kind of switch that has been set so v5 doesn't have this problem AFAIK.

not on my mandrake file server/teamspeak server here at the house. 
I had the exact same passwords setup on that box as well as the astaro and the file srver(running mandrake 9.2) does not exhibit this behavior.

ick so astaro v4 is limited to 8 characters?  That is not cool..oh well...
