Sluggish performance/problems [ASL 5.0.11]

i'm deploying 2 astaros, one in my CO which is a 128MB P3-500 board with a standard eth IF as internet port, this station has IPS, a couple packetfilters, DNS proxy(DHCP lan) and a single VPN tunnel. It works perfectly, very responsive.

on the other hand, the 2nd FW is a celeron-600 with 256MB RAM which was an upgrade for the P200-96MB because ASL5 was totally unusable in that PC but now it works exactly the same on this new rig, even from the LAN side it's unusable, takes ages to open the admin, and in there you can only be browsing a couple minutes until it becomes unresponsive and then i have to open a new IE window and start over(this happens via LAN or WAN).
On this side i have a PPPoE internet(slow link, 128/512) IF and only VPN/DNS proxy.

When i check the hardware reports, the 1st FW has a usage of 0.2/0.4 in the day, the 2nd FW is always above 2/3

any ideas?.
could it be that pppoe is broken, since it's doing the same as the P200....

    isn't 512MB a bit overkill for less than 3Mbit of traffic?
    doing some experiments, i disabled the VPN and usage dropped to 0.2, so i changed from using AEP_PFS_COMP to AEP_COMP, rebooted the system and now it works like a charm.

    v5 is a ram hog at default settings(aka no command line hacking)...256 may work but 512 is the better way to go(again wih no hacking)...128 will not cut it for v5 at all..it is not a traffic thing it is the new features of Astaro that use up memory.
