I too, am looking forward to upgrading to v5, once the dust settles on all the problems with the new version. The new home use and power user policies are great. It makes it very tempting to upgrade.
VelvetFog, TEMPTING indeed. First thing I'll do is set up snort to have it's rules adjusted via idspm along with my other machines and have it log to an external MySQL database. Tinker, tinker, tinker.
You are way ahead of me. I haven't started thinking about how to configure snort yet. I am still looking for cheap RAM, so that I can upgrade my ASL v4 box and a few of my Windows PCs. They could all use a significant increase in the amount of installed RAM before I go and introduce any new software.
My current ASL box, with 192 MB in it, really needs to be upgraded to somewhere beyond 256 MB, before I can use it as an ASL v5 machine.

Mine's running 256 without much traffic yet. I'm only using it as the default gateway for my laptop so far with no proxies running yet. I might see if I can grab another 256 from one of my unused machines. After that, Whoo Hoo.
Don't ditch that SG20 just yet. Load up 5.00x and do some testing. If it's only the Webadmin that a little slow, don't worry about it. You're not using Webadmin all the time. Configure it, then load the hell out of it and then go look at the graphs. While it's running normally (Not logged in Webadmin) the biggest single use of processor will be snort if you're using it. The back-up at midnight will eat up a bunch if you have large logs, but that's another issue.. The machine you use is completely dependent on what configuration you're using.. The SG20 I have only has 128Mb of RAM in it though, which doesnt sound like it will be enough for me to run it with all the bells and whistles switched on.
Admittedly, this is just an excuse to get newer hardware as the real problem with the SG20 is the lack of a 3rd network port and it being impossible to fit one.
I could upgrade the RAM but i still cant have a DMZ port which I need for my wireless network, so V5 needing better hardware is the push I need to change the box... [:)]
