oversized Ethernet frame Help!!!!!!

Sometimes the Webadmin, SSH and the local console stops responding, but I can still surf...
Then after some minutes the traffic stops also and no one has access to the internet also an other Firewall which is directly connected with the cablemodem like the Astaro box.
At this time I can see on the monitor screen of the Astaro box the following line:

eth1: oversized Ethernet frame, status 0019C600

What’s this???!!!

Now I must hard reset the Astaro box and turn off and on the Cable modem.
Then everything works fine for several minutes. After I have the same problem!

Astaro is really a good product but i can't use it with this problem!

My Hardware is:
ASL 4.001
Compaq Desk Pro 4000
PII 233 MHz
128 MB RAM
3,2 GB HD
1 TLAN on board (LAN interface)
1 D-Link DFE-580TX 4 Port NIC
(WAN Interface, connected to the cablemodem)

    Hi,
    From what I've been reading up on that message, it might be a nic driver issue. do you have any other nics you can swap out that dlink with to verify its that card?? Also, when the nic freezes up like that, instead if rebooting the box, i beleive ifconfig-ing down and then up again should work.  When the internet becomes unresponsive, can you ping the lan interface  ?  MTU might be something to look at as well.

    Try altering the MTU value of the NIC connected to your cable modem. Default is 1500, but many configurations requier MTU set to 1492 (I believe - check with your cable modem manufactor).

    Thank your for your hints!

    But it isn't the NIC. I have replaced the D-Link NIC with a 3Com NIC and I had the same Problem.
    It isn’t also the MTU. 
    The CPU of my ASL Box becomes sometimes too hot so I think the CPU do errors and ASL has a Kernel Bug again and again. Finally I think the NIC Driver has sometimes a malfunction (because of the Kernel Bugs) and sends too big Packets...

    I think will buy a new PC...

    Hi,
    whats about a new CPU Cooler its cheaper and if the Power of the 233CPU is enough for your Network traffic .......
