HA Mode for Power Home User

I've just got a question regarding High Availability, and the power home user licence.  Will we need two separate reg codes in order to try this out?  Or can we use our same code on the two HA Boxes?

If we can't use the same code twice, can I get another Power Home User licence  [:)]

    Ya, a NIC costing 8$ Canadian.. who cares  [:)]

    A NIC might cost $8, but the issue is that most motherboards allow a maxium of 4 cards. That means that you either need expensive four port cards, or something else. 

    In my opinion the worst thing you can do is to run the HA on a seperate card. The worst. The idea with HA is for a computer to take over from another in case of any failure... And that can be a cable failure, TCP/IP stack failure, Device driver failure etc.

    By having a seperate interface for HA you are creating a situation where you are not monitoring the heartbeat through a normal communication path. The normal path can fail (such as hubs on DMZ, Private, Public) and not be detected because HA was on its own interface. 

    The clasic place for this would be where you use a 4 port NIC for the 3 or 4 interfaces, and then use another for the HA. The 4 port NIC fails, and HA does not know that there is a failure.

    The loadable device driver could die on the 4 port card and HA would still say the machine was OK.

    I am skeptical about the use of a serial cable for the same reason. I am about to remove it from my redhat boxes.

    Exchanging the information on configs over serial is OK, but placing the HA pings on the serial does no good. The serial connection can do a couple of things as far as I can work out - it can program the fallover order; and it can help in the case where network cables are being moved... 

    The best solution rather than having a dedicated HA port is to have duplicated NIC's for each computer... etc...
