Where is the source code of astaro?

Hello all:

  I found  astaro frome sourceforge.net.As a memeber of GNU,Where is the source code of  astaro?
  I could not find the source file about astaro.
 How to get the source code for study?

    As far as I know (which may not be much) - ASL is a combination of GPL'd and proprietary code. The way they get around releasing this product is that they do offer to install only the GPL'd modules. However, without the proprietary WebAdmin portions, it's more or less useless unless you're a Linux hacker.

    Therefore, in short, the source code is readily available for the components which are open source from their respective sites (however I'm not sure if ASL makes the modified code available). The code for the proprietary ASL modules itself is hidden from our prying eyes.

    That does bring up a good question: If various GPL'd components are modified to be hardened, aren't they still required to release those source modifications under the GPL License? If so, where's the code?

    Yes they are required to released the source code on any derived work adn/or modified gpl works.. But everytime anybody tells them that they get pissed and ignores you. They always say they have heard enough about this question. I am pretty annoyed that they don't supply the sources nor do they tell you what patches they are using. And the definetly don't wanna give out the config file for the linux kernel so you could fine tune it yourself. They are pretty stiff assed about this.

    it's nothing to do with to be pissed off with someone asking to follow rules of licensing model (GPL) ASTARO code is based on. kernel, etc is part of GPL and modified or not according to GPL regulation it has to be supplied with iso along or be available as source code including modifications to GPL part of ASTARO (this does not affect own ASTARO code if it's not based on GPL though). I agree, GPL model could be pain in the neck. but regardless, source code of the PATCHED kernel and other modified GPL products HAS to be included with distro. speaking of web interface of ASTARO,if it happened to be based on GPL code(i'm not too sure about this one, you tell me if it does), then it supposed to be relesed as source code as well.
    I'm quite certain that at the moment ASTARO is being questioned by GPL authorities to provide source code of GPL part of product, not link to original source code.
    I'm not too sure what would be result of this investigation, but looks like unless ASTARO is desperatly enjoy this situation, some results are still expected.
    (Just wondering if i would be banned out this forum by ASTARO admin shortly. You, guys, tell me how good my chances are   [:)]   ).
    Let's give this issue some time and we'll see what's gonna happen.

    I'm not going to ban anyone except for extreme antisocial behaviour and/or continued studipidy  [;)] 

    As for the sources, we are compiling a CD with all the packages included in ASL. It will include much of ftp.gnu.org and other publicly accessible FTP servers, so I really don't know what the point is  about that source thing.

    Well actually the derived source code would apply to changes, such as hooks to the network code so their gui can make changes, etc.  

    What most people are wanting is a copy of the source to their gui.  It is not going to happen.  Look at the tivo.  It is a linux/gpl derived produ=ct.  You can dl the src to what they have changed to the kernel and that is about it.

    Oops, let me explain what Astaro is doing:

    Astaro Security Linux is a combination of Open Source Software (Linux, Netfilter etc.) and proprietary software (WebAdmin, Up2Date etc.). Astaro does not breach any Open Source license by doing that. All of our patches are contributed back to the project maintainers. 

    Actually Astaro pays money to several maintainers of Open Source projects (like the ones of Netfilter, Exiscan, SuperFreeswan), so they can get their important work done.

    Astaro is not publishing the code of its proprietary software, nor a list of configurations or compile options. This is the know-how that we sell. But there has always been the option to order a CD from Astaro with all the Sources of the used Open Source projects incl. patches on it. Now we are working on mirroring these files to simplify the distribution.

    I can't imagine that anybody from Astaro became unfriendly talking on this issue. If it happened, I am really sorry. Actually we are all big believers and supporters of Open Source Software. So far we just didn't come up with a smarter way of paying bills while working with Open Source software. I am very open for suggestions [:)]

    Somehow some people still have a problem when someone is trying to make money on Linux. I think Astaro is making money on Linux a decent way, as described above. If you don't like it, don't try it, don't buy it. In the meantime: keep up the good work over there in Germany  [:)]

      I have seen you integrated pop3vscan in Astaro and have solved a couple of bugs. Actually I was the guy that pointed you where to get a pop antivirus gateway [:)] I have contacted the original author but have not received an answer yet.

      We are very interested in getting the last sourcecode of such application. We have tried to use the binary directly but doesnt work properly in our box (works great until it receives an email with virus that kind of hangs [:(]

      Is there any way I can get just the sourcecode for such application? Do I need to buy the whole CD? When is this CD going to be available?
