Thanks for the info. I had another problem though. I tried to reboot the machine and the firewall did not come back again. This is a problem since the machine is in a different location. I had to wait until somebody else was available to reset the machine.

...talked with the Astaro guys yesterday. It seems that aua.bin and cron occasionally zombie without affecting the whole system. This is a known bug (for 2.0 and 3.2 - alas, that are the versions I know of) but the cause has not been identified yet. Zombies don't make me feel comfortable, though.
