The new GUI

i think the new gui isn't that ugly, but in some cases, for example the Packetfilterrules, it makes my eyes hurt too... So maybe there and in some other cases, it should be possible to change the colors or to have an option to switch back to the old colors.

I agree partly. "Ugly" is different, but readability suffers in some parts of the ASG as the already mentioned Packetfilter or other parts too compared to a V8 with it's very good contrast.

Maybe some grids, shadows or other elemts could help to separate items from each other. Compared to the V8 Gui it's much more exhausting to work with the new coloring.

Besides of the little unfamiliar new coloring scheme does V9 rock ! Have lot of fun to play around with it's new features [:D]

Looks intresting, but agree that there should be more shades/differences in colour.
Now it's almost a completly flat layout with a feeling of white on white...

If you have problems with the contrast or the readability, please post screenshots and describe (briefly) the problem you are having with that section of the webadmin. We'll then try to fix those areas. If you have suggestions how to improve the UI, keep them coming. I'll happily discuss those ideas with the developers.

Basically the white on white is terrible. As Astaro/Sophos for some reason still sticks with the 1024x768 optimized interface on displays that are normal today 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 it creates a narrow white strip in the middle of bright white emptiness. That, in case one has a good display gives you a case of snow blindness rather quickly as high contrast/brightness displays simply burn your eyes out. If you stick to this white on white scheme I recommend shipping protective eyewear with the gateways for the admins.

The WebAdmin interface should be able to use all available space on the monitor because now as it is still constricted to a narrow strip longer definitions and object names are truncated and so on. It was a problem in v7 and v8 and version 9 only makes it worse.

The new packetfilter presentation is also a step in a wrong direction as the way the rules were shown in v7 and v8 is much better.

The boxes compared to the background all beeing white gives a flat impression
and somewhat less impact.

Simply adjusting the background to a less bright level could maybe improve

While i see your point with those large displays, please keep in mind that we still have customers in less developed countries, where 1024 is the average screen size. And most of our developers are working on screens that are 1280 pixels wide (dual monitor setup though).

And, just because i'm curious: why do you run your browser fullscreen? You could easily make the window smaller, so that it uses maybe half of the screen? Don't get me wrong here, i'm not arguing, i'm just curious.

This "disease" seems to have spread from the Sophos website.  It may be time to move your account to another design firm.
