My ssl vpn clients will no longer authenticate if the user is remotely authenticated/synced from edirectory.
Users are still able to login to the user portal so edir synced authentication works elsewhere.

generally authentication seems to work, so the access to ssl vpn may be a problem: have you restricted the ssl remote access to
* the default edirectory group or
* a backend group with "Limit to backend group(s) membership" or
* individual users
