As a RED is something you pay for, doesn't Astaro appreciate this may be a possible revenue stream?

From what I've seen of the intended use of these devices, it doesn't make sense to offer the RED capability to Essential Firewalls. The whole idea of these devices is to extend your corporate network, and the UTM features of the Astaro ASG, out to small offices where a full blown ASG 120 license just doesn't make sense. Good example are gas stations where you may only have 2-3 network devices at most and 1-2 people using them. An ASG110 license would be overkill.
Thanks for the reply. I understand what you mean about the expense of deploying ASG110/120s to branch sites, but by not allowing the use of REDs with Essential Edition, they [Astaro] are potentially losing out from those willing to pay $300 for a RED device, but not able to afford the cost of an ASG.
With essential edition allowing for unlimited IP addresses anyway, allowing RED can only be beneficial to Astaro?
RED is considered an advanced feature---and as such it is a licensed feature. The margin on hardware is really low... So to anser your question, RED alone is not really a "revenue stream" item in and of itself. The network security subscription really is quite affordable, maybe you should check with your favorite Sophos/Astaro partner for pricing...
