[8.285][INFO][NONE] VMware Test

Just wanted to post my feedback on the 8.3 beta since I've had it running now at home for the past few weeks.

The beta is running on a 2 vCPU / 6GB RAM virtual machine on VMware ESXi 4. Probably a bit overspecced but it performs like a dream.

Haven't encountered any bugs yet but I do want to report that the Web Security performance issue William reported that required activating the local content cache, doesn't seem to be present in the beta.

On older releases (v7, v8.1x, v8.2x) I had to enable the local content filter cache with transparent mode otherwise my internet connection became pretty well non-functional. With a pristine beta install, the problem is no longer there.

    I agree, Drew - this is really smooth!

    I have one customer with it in production because he's rolling out some special wireless stuff for their trucks, and is moving to an AT&T service that requires BGP.  Since this is, primarily, bug fixes for 8.2 plus some new goodies that don't affect much of anything else, I went production on 8.270 in our office.

    I'm not recommending that to any other businesses, but I think most home users will be as happy as you are.

    I want to try the Amazon VPC connection, but I haven't learned enough about the Amazon end of that yet.

    I will joing the cheer squad..

    Really really stabile and robust beta version.

    I am running 8.285 production and not one single thing of the previous configuration from 8.202 has failed or been buggy.

    I am running this production to test out the new RED feature in hope to create transparency between 3 client lan segments - however I am still fumbling around with it. Only got it working partially and documentation has not yet been written so its a bit up the hill.

    Glad you are testing. I have also noticed that there is no substitute for high end hardware[:(]

    I have never had that problem with any of my installs, I think it mostly depends on your internet pipe and how much stuff you are scanning. However once you start using local db, there is no turning back. The difference even when minuscule is large enough that you notice it when local db is not enabled.

    I have the room on the server so why not? I've also tested it with one vCPU & 1GB of RAM to simulate a 120/220/320 config and it has issues but that was expected.

    Our problems were with the ASG software itself I think. I tested the Web Proxy on a 120 (w/ 1GB rAM), a custom built Atom dual core rig w/ 4GB RAM (temp license), and an older Pentium Dual-Core w/ 2GB RAM. I tested on our 6/1 DSL at one office, a 10Mb fiber line at HQ, and my 15Mb line at home. Up to 8.2x (8.202 may have worked at home but it's late and my brain is foggy at the mo) Transparent Mode was useless.

    On Vmware part , 

    do u use port group ,how many guest u r running with vmware , 

    i had 6 gb ram and i am running ubuntu ,windows server and asg but i had some problem with mail and some other thing but if i use asg on another machine i dont have that problem  

    so can u please tell me what is best way to use vmware and asg and guest .
    how many nic u r using ,do u use VLAN , and so on .....
