[8.163][QUESTION][ANSWERED] where is QOS at?

Hi,
my VoIP service is basically unusable due to many small breaks distorting the voice. I have 2 VoIP services, one is usually way better than the other, but at the moment they are both very choppy/chirpy.

I have tried a number of settings but have not been able to improve the quality.

Hi all,

I'm hesitant to ring in here because I am neither a VoIP or QOS master, but here it goes.

I have Vonage VoIP and it breaks up, but it seems that it only happens when web browsing is occurring. I can saturate my upload pipe (1 Mbps) and have most of my download pipe filled and it seems to work fine but add in web browsing and it breaks up. Even if there is no traffic up or down it still breaks up. I also have a land line that I can use to do my testing.

I did setup QOS and gave my VoIP network (it has it's own VMWare LAN) 100kbps reserved bandwidth. My VoIP traffic tops out at 83kbps. This still doesn't seem to help. I'm not sure if I have QOS setup correctly or not.

I have vonage also and I assign 128kbps although vonage doesn't seem to use more than 85kb as you mentioned. Only thing I would change is uncheck the download equalizer and see if it helps. I don't talk on vonage phone much lately, cell phones are so cheap its almost pointless but still it should work reliably.

Also, I am only guaranteeing the outgoing and not the incoming in my setup but your setup seems more complete and shouldn't breakup at all.

Try throttling http incoming to 15000kbps with application selector and see if you can fine tune it but this might be a bug if you are having problems as guaranteed bandwidth should work regardless of any other traffic.

EDIT: Try voip application selector and see if it is more reliable.

Here is an update on my situation. It looks like the ASG cannot classify the traffic for Vonage. If it can't do that how can QOS work?

Hi Paul,
you create your own traffic selector in the QOS tabs.

The traffic selector terminology appears under 2 tabs, the one Billybob is referring to is the one in QOS.

OK, I've tried a few things here and nothing seems to help. I'm starting to think this is a bug because only HTTP traffic seems to cause the breakup. I can have no traffic on my internet connection and it is fine but when I start browsing it breaks up.
