[7.450][BUG][FIXED] HTTP connections are interrupted by AV update

Hi Bastian,
I have a couple of threads running with a similar vein, but have not been able to convince nitehawk that there is a problem. A couple of other users have also indicated a similar problem.
Nothing shows in the logs that I have been able to identify with the interruption that would satisfy Gert or nitehawk.

There is less than 1% load on my astaro 7.450 box and it still does it.

With multiple updates coming during the day, it will be interesting how they fix this one without stopping the traffic momentarily. Something will have to get restarted once they have the updates. This includes IPS. Most services have some kind of reload switch. 

Maybe some kind of script that checks the number of sessions. But with a lot of stuff running all the time, I guess its never a good time to restart. Maybe when Ian's kids are streaming media... that will teach em[;)]

 Lets see if astaro folks says something... if they stay quiet I guess we'll have our answer.

Of course nothing shows in the log. But the issue still is there. And I think it's quite easy to reproduce:

For testing you could disable the automatic updates, wait for a half-day, start a longer download (at least 30 mins or so), and then reenable the updates. As soon as the update completes your download will stop.

All, it's not really about "convincing" us. We try to reproduce your reported bugs and give you feedback - nothing else.

We all really appreciate your effort and we'll try hard to reproduce this.

it is my streaming audio that is continually interrupted. The kids suffer because a 400mb download blows out to over 1gb because of the multiple restarts.

Without wanting to seem to picky, but I identified that e_poll was the likely suspect in a much earlier post because that was the only log entry I could find that appeared around the time of every audiostreaming failure.

Bastian, I am not doubting you at all. Infact you have been pretty consistant with all the bugs that you have been submitting. I was just guessing on how astaro was going to tackle it once they reporduced it.

@RFCat_vk, this is not related to this thread but in my case enabling tcpip windows scaling gives me a lot better streaming experience. Its a pretty basic linux hack but disabled in astaro by default. Try to enable it if you haven't already and see if it helps. Screenshot attached.

You're definitely right, that window scaling is helpful, especially with a limited upload bandwidth (that's why I enabled it a long time ago). But one should also consider which operating system is in use on the client's side. E.g. Windows started enabling window scaling with Vista in the first place as default (in older systems there is a registry key available). I'm not aware of how common the support is with Linux.

I have installed one of the v7.460 versions. I have has scaling enabled for a number of versions. One thing I did remember from my networking courses.

The interruptions are worse at the moment under v7.460.

I'm not already completely sure, but I think this also happens with the http proxy disabled.

I was making changes to the e-mail proxy (POP3) yesterday and the streaming audio kept failing. I couldn't make it happen every time, but the co-incidence was just too high. After that streaming audio was almost unusable until the midnight reset.

Seems my ASG is now in a similiar state, I can't play my Last.fm streams anymore after reenabling the proxy. Rebooting did not help!

If this stays that way I'll power up the other VM (7.403) again [:@]

Edit: simple MP3 winamp streaming works.

every time, when the ASG updates its Avira and/or Clam definitions, all open HTTP connections are interrupted.

I'm not doing any more testing until they tell us what should be fixed in 7.470.  I like to kill bugs, not swat at ghosts.

I think they should start new with every beta and the testing period should be predefined. So lets say everything in the next 10 days is included in the next beta which will be released in 2 weeks.
Then we start new discussion on that beta only. The way it stands, people think they have found bugs only to learn that someone else pointed to the same bug 2 releases ago. Just a thought.

By the way the original bug that bastian is complaining about day in and day out has been replicated by me and others, just not astaro.[:@]

On a side note, I think this has been one of the most successful beta for astaro. Almost as close to v7.0 beta which was a total code rewrite so not bad.

Indeed! Looking at the forum stats you see 7.5 beta has a lot more postings and threads than its predecessors. (I didn't experience the 7.0 beta as I'm relatively new to Astaro [;)])

Thus I believe it's all haywire at Astaro at the moment (just look at the stats how many bugs there are still marked as open), as they didn't expect this amount of feedback. But this is just the logical result of the huge list of changes. And this beta test will endure longer then they thought (estimated end of beta phase is 07/15/2009 [:D])...

But that's not only due to the amount of feedback: in some threads they already wrote about the upcoming 8.0 release. In my humble opinion they should rather concentrate on the current beta than work on complex future projects (they seem to do lots of preparation work already for the next major version step).

Hi Folks,
I have changed the memory and the extra NIC, reseated everything that I can and upgraded what ever could be upgraded.
Result, positive not so many breaks but....
under v7.460 for about the first hour or so after a restart the audio streaming was almost unusable, dropouts about every 5 minutes for no apparent reason. Though the dropouts seem to occur more often if I have webadmin open.
I have 7.470b installed since 0808 my time this morning, I will add comments to another thread on that subject.
At the moment the service is stable, but I have a weekend of testing ahead of me.
