Beta install fails on Compaq Proliant 1850R

Fails when pressing "Return" to contine after the hardware has been successfully (as far as I can see) detected. Script stops, and "returns" displayed as "^M" across the screen. Any ideas?

Same machine installs/runs the previous stable release fine.

    Hello Russell,

    Please switch to the 2nd console (Alt+F2) after the error occures, open the install log (less -S /var/log/install.log), scroll to the end and post some (about 5) last messages.

    Hi Dennis,

    I realise now this machine in not identical to the one on which 3.2 works fine - that one has 2 dual port NICs whereas this has one dual port NIC and one single port NIC. Maybe I have an unsupported NIC (although the script surely should not crash)?

    Great, why isn´t this mentioned in the HCL?
    I lately tried to install ASL on a box with just that chipset :-(

    So, since you say "We had an issue..." do you mean this is fixed in ASL 3.383?

    I've got a similar problem on an Intel OEM server m. ISP 2150.

    You are correct, I had not scrolled to the end :-)

    There were a bunch of modules being installed:
    sd.mod.o
    ide-mod.o
    ide-probe-mod.o
    ide-disk.o
    cdrom.o
    sr-mod.o
    ide-cd.o

    then..

    /dev/hda
     setting using_dma to 0 (off)
     using_dma = 0 (off)
    hda: Model: CD224E
    Calculating partition sizes

    That's it. It's a mirrored 4.2GB Utra-SCSI array managed by the Compaq RAID utility.

    Sorry, I forgot to mention that I did attempt to install on the box that is presently running 3.2 happily, and I got the same apparent failure, but the logs just posted are from the similar box.

    Hi all,

    we have the samme problems using an FSC L100 rackserver with dual ethernet intel pro/100 onboard. --> Latest ASL release and 3.3beta will work fine, but ....

    when adding one or more eth-adapters detected like the onboard conrollers :

    Model ......: 82557/8/9 [Ethernet Pro 100] Intel Corp

    --> installation fails

    Thank you all for the feedback. It seems actually to to be a hardware issue, so we'll try to get such machine to seek the origin of the problem. Please be patient.

    @techno.kid: we had the 440BX issue in the ASL 2.0, it was mentioned in the appropriate HCL. We don't have any problem reports for the more recent versions, thus we didn't include it into the HCL for these versions. Now I'll track it and possible we change the HCL if we know more.

    We are investigating on the problem - we will
    receive some test hardware shortly and comeback
    to you asap with the results.

    @russel: think that Dennis meant that the installation
    routine has problems with the used hardware.

    Dennis,

    I don't understand how it can be a hardware issue. The latest stable release is running fine and when I tried to upgrade this exact box I got this error. (Subsequent tests were on a similar but different box.)

    Does this mean that you maybe will not find a fix?
    If ASL 3.383 would be able to support Pentium I, I could provide you with the 440GX-Board - and use my "old" board instead :-)

    It seems to be the same problem as with other boards mentioned here. I hope it will be solved soon.
