ASL 3.030 Beta, isolinux boot error

I had no issues installing astaro from CD boot.  They said they have no plans to do any floppy boot.  if it helps one of the Beta 2 versions I was playing with gave me tons of errors on lower speed CD-roms.  Just check to see if you have a good speed reader

    Its an Aopen 40x

    IF it helps to change the cdrom drive I can change to a pioneer cd/dvd while installing. I think the cd bootet from this computer.

    Edit:
    I tried the cd on a p166 with 4x crate and it worked as well, I'll try moving this drive over and check if its cdrom or mainboard issue

    It didn't work it the computer I want to run asl on. Thus it seems to be an issue with the mainboard or something. 

    The mainboard is an Aopen AX56Pro, with K6-2 400 Mhz

    Does this mean the only way to install is to move the disk to a "working computer" and then move it back after install? Or could I make a lile/loadlin boot disk and use the bzimage and config from isolinux?

    Ahh. yeah.. that should do, didn't think of it last night. Not thte best solution, but perhaps the only one :/

    The cdrom is 40x, it booted on a 4x on a p166.
    When I moved the 4x over to the asl computer it didn't boot, thus seem to be more like a mainboard issue or something.

    Hi all,

    we tested the on a K6/2 too - without any problem...
    Please post detailed hardware information if you have trouble to boot the CD, maybe we will find a solution...

    Hardware:

    Mainboard: Aopen AX59Pro
    CPU: K6-2 400Mhz
    CD-rom Drive: Aopen 40x
    Ram: 64MB, not sure what brand
    Floppy: standard 1.44, not sure what brand
    Harddrive: 13.6GB, Western Digital.(Cavariar I think)
    Network adapters: 2xUnex PCI 10/100
    Display adapter: SIS something

    The error is:
    ISOLINUX 1.65 2001-12-15 isolinux: Failed to get sector size, assuming 0800
    isolinux: disk error 01, drive 9F
    Boot failed: press a key to retry

    Uhm.. never mind, I just found out I was using an ancient bios, and after upgradig to latest it worked.

    In case anyone else have the same problem:

    Hey...

    Yeah, that's the BIOS problem I was talking about.  Here's my hardware, which even after a BIOS update, doesn't boot with the CDROM.

    IBM PC300/350 Model 6587
    Western Digital 2.5 GB hard drive
    96MB RAM
    8X IDE CDROM  (also tried with a Teac 40X)
    NICS:  1 DLINK RTL8029, 1 Netgear FA311 (Natsemi), 1 RTL8139 (8139too)
    Display:  S3 Trio
    BIOS updated to one from 1999.  Still probably too old.   [:(]

    I had similar problems with the 3.030 CD. I have easily installed v2 and v3.020 on this PC, but get Isolinux boot error 20 whe trying to install 3.030. Downloaded and burned the image twice. Not sure what the problem is. Any ideas people?

    FWIW.....

    I had a dell dimension P3 600 that refused to load 2.016 properly.  Tried different cd roms and different hard drives.  Would always have smtp errors.  3.02 worked flawlessly.

    Am now using an old p2 beater for production and got another for my test bed. will load 3.03 tomorrow.

    on same machine no probs with asl-2.016.iso

    Hardware:
    CDROM Asus 50x
    MB Asus A7V - Newest Bios
    Via Chipset
    AMD Duron 1000 MHz
    256 MB Ram
    HD Maxtor Diamondmax D540X

    Might be worth a try asking mainboard manafacturer support or something?
