I downloaded and copied and ran the install.sh.
A couple of things...
1) Where do I run "dhcpd restart"?
2) How do I confirm that the dhcp server is actually running?
3) What should my packet filter rules look like to allow the astaro box to serv DHCP requests?

This probably should be addressed by someone who knows a lot more than I do about Astaro, chrooting, and/or linux, but here goes:

1) Stop and start work OK for me, but I could never get restart to work.  When testing, I just used stop and start.  I suspect there is something wrong with the 'restart)' choice in the script, but I don't know enough about it to try a hack.

2) The only way I know how to do this is to ifconfig/ipconfig/winipcfg a client's NIC down/release and up/renew, and see if the IP gets renewed.  You can probably have a look at Astaro's running processes some way, but I only know how to do that in Redhat-type distributions.  Besides, getting a client's IP renewed is what you want to achieve anyway.

3) I didn't need to change my packet rules to get dhcp service to the clients.  I only have one rule; that is to let any internal go anywhere and do anything.  I run no servers, vpn etc.

I'm practicing Astaro and linux without a license here, and I hope someone who knows a little more than me will pitch in and help.

1) from /rc.d -> ./dhcpd stop OR start
2) ps ax to see dhcpd process
3) no new rules.

I know this is rudimentary to some but...  [:)]

Could someone please email me that dhcp server as well.   I would like to test that out.

I'm probably missing something, but how exactly would I go about getting that file onto the server in the first place? It's not like I can FTP in...

One way is to use secure copy (scp).

If you have a Windows client, use the tool at this site :

I'm sorry for not been around for some time. The link to the astaro dhcpd went down with an upgrade of a server.

I'm not sure if I have the original package around, altough the dhcp server is still working on my astaro installation.

Hopefully with the release of 3.0 there won't be more need my little hack.

Welcome back.  Speaking for myself, and I am sure for the dozen or more members I have e-mailed your package to, thanks a million for the "hack".  I only hope dhcp in the 3.0 version works as flawlessly as your "hack" has worked for me.

I can't manage to install the DHCP Server on my Astaro Firewall. I log with SSH Access (throw WinSCP2). I copy the file, I unzip it. When i try to untar it, nothing happens, I have to do a CTRL-C to unlock ... How to install it ?

Do you have a DHCP Relay executable in you DHCP package?

If someone could e-mail me the dhcpd package, I would greatly appreciate it. I'd rather use a package that has a bit of a user-base before I try to hack some other DHCP server.

I managed to get some time to fix the url but... it seems I've lost the dhcp package somewhere. I still use it on a firewall, but repackaging it will take me some time I can't afford now. If someone sends the original package to me, I'll put it back on the original url I posted.

Thanks to BillH, the original dhcp server is one the old url:

I will keep it there at least until version 3 of astaro linux is in production use.
