I tried Davix's site too & it appears to be down.  Maybe only temporarily.

I have Davix's dhcpd.asl2000.tar.gz package, along with a bunch of dhcpd.conf examples I found.  I acually got one of them to work on my cable modem setup, which has had dhcp running along with Benoit's dhcpc for a couple of months.

The DHCP package has a readme.  It's really pretty easy - the files untar to where they are supposed to go, you may have to tweak one of the scripts, and you have to add your own dhpcd.conf in the specified directory.

Unless Davix objects, I'll be glad to email the tar package & my dhcpd.conf collection (about 50k) to you, if you can get the Astaro guys to send me your email address (or I'll upload it to their site if they want to tell me how).

I need it also, for a home enviroment. I Don't have any dedicated servers running there to pass out DHCP.

A couple of things...
1) Where do I run "dhcpd restart"?
2) How do I confirm that the dhcp server is actually running?
3) What should my packet filter rules look like to allow the astaro box to serv DHCP requests?

This probably should be addressed by someone who knows a lot more than I do about Astaro, chrooting, and/or linux, but here goes:

1) Stop and start work OK for me, but I could never get restart to work.  When testing, I just used stop and start.  I suspect there is something wrong with the 'restart)' choice in the script, but I don't know enough about it to try a hack.

2) The only way I know how to do this is to ifconfig/ipconfig/winipcfg a client's NIC down/release and up/renew, and see if the IP gets renewed.  You can probably have a look at Astaro's running processes some way, but I only know how to do that in Redhat-type distributions.  Besides, getting a client's IP renewed is what you want to achieve anyway.

3) I didn't need to change my packet rules to get dhcp service to the clients.  I only have one rule; that is to let any internal go anywhere and do anything.  I run no servers, vpn etc.

I'm practicing Astaro and linux without a license here, and I hope someone who knows a little more than me will pitch in and help.

Got it.
1) from /rc.d -> ./dhcpd stop OR start
2) ps ax to see dhcpd process
3) no new rules.

I know this is rudimentary to some but...  [:)]

Could someone please email me that dhcp server as well.   I would like to test that out.

I'm probably missing something, but how exactly would I go about getting that file onto the server in the first place? It's not like I can FTP in...

One way is to use secure copy (scp).

I'm sorry for not been around for some time. The link to the astaro dhcpd went down with an upgrade of a server.

I'm not sure if I have the original package around, altough the dhcp server is still working on my astaro installation.

Hopefully with the release of 3.0 there won't be more need my little hack.

I can't manage to install the DHCP Server on my Astaro Firewall. I log with SSH Access (throw WinSCP2). I copy the file, I unzip it. When i try to untar it, nothing happens, I have to do a CTRL-C to unlock ... How to install it ?

Do you have a DHCP Relay executable in you DHCP package?
