iCloud Inbound and Outbound SMTP

Hi everyone,

Hopefully someone can come to my aid with this issue. I'm new to Sophos Firewall configuration and honestly networking in general so there's a big learning curve here.

Situation: There is a user (CEO) for the company I do IT support for that would like to add his iCloud account to his Outlook so he can keep track of his personal emails without switching between iDevice and Windows 7 VM... this easy, before setting up on his machine I set it up on my personal (home) computer and everything worked successfully. Here comes the bad part... when I try setting this up on his VM it connects to the mail server just fine but is unable to send/receive emails.

After talking to my boss and explaining the situation he explains that on the XG Firewall it's been setup to only allow communication between the on-site Exchange server and our mail filter (Mimecast) on port 25. So the next step is to allow communication for the iCloud account on port 587. I think I have this setup correctly but before i finalize I'd like to get confirmation before I break anything.

If someone can help it would be much appreciated.

P.S. attached is a screenshot of what I think the right setup is...

Regards,

John

  • Hi John,

that rule will not work. You are trying to achieve too much with one rule. You need a rule for outgoing and another rule for incoming.

For his icloud mail you need a rule that allows LAN to WAN on port 587. Source would be LAN, any network, destination would be WAN, icloud. You could use a mail rule to add checking if you have certificates installed (imaps, smtps) because imaps (587) is incoming only he will need to send (maybe) back to his personal account.
