Web Category shaping not working

I have "Apply Web Category based Traffic Shaping Policy" ticked on all my firewall rules, and for any video traffic ("Video Hosting", etc) i have applied a shared policy that limits throughput to 300KBps (3000Kbps).

iftop still shows this traffic hitting 6Mbps a lot of the time though, 2s, 10s, and 40s averages all sitting above 5Mbps.

Do I need to do anything else to make the Web Category shaping work?

thanks

James

  • I put a limit of 200KBps down and 20Kbps up on the Download Applications, File Transfer, and Software Update categories (Software Update includes Windows Update), and things are no better. Windows update still uses up all the link bandwidth and slows everything down to a crawl - citrix sessions freeze, other webpages take ages to load, etc.

Someone wrote that XG determines link bandwidth itself and gives fair bandwidth to each stream, but I'm really not seeing that.

Is there any plan to introduce SG style QoS? That would make this usable again.
