How to delete a bridge and still access device?

Hi all

I recently setup an XG software firewall on Dell desktop with 3 NICs (1 onboard and 2 separate PCI Gigabit NICs). I am new to Sophos firewalls and setup Port 2 as Wan and Port 1 and 3 as a bridge.

I'm trying to see if there is a way to delete this bridge and get back access to the device to reconfigure the ports as the main firewall IP 172.16.1.1 is assigned to the bridge.

The reasons I now need to do this is I would like to test out VLAN functionality and it doesn't appear that I can tag VLAN's to a bridge. I presume as it spans 2 physical ports.

Any ideas?

  • Gerry,

did you try to use the Wizard from top-rigth menu ?

Using the wizard you should be able to reconfigure all the network adapters.

    Regards

  • Thanks for your reply Iferrara. I'm worried that I won't have access to the device if i delete the bridge since it has the main ip of the firewall assigned across my only two lan ports? Will this be the case and if so how should I gain access after deletion?

  • Gerry,

you can configure XG in routing mode and assign the proper IP and interface to the proper zone. If you lost access, you always have the console where you can change the IP and perform a factory reset.

    Regards

  • I presume by "configure the XG in routing mode" you mean XG will still be available to access via the IP after the deletion of the bridge?

I found the command line reference but can't see a command to change the IP address on a port. When I go into the network configuration on the console , the IPV4 address it lets me set only relates to port 2 (Wan) and not the others.

Thanks very much for the info. I'll give it a go and will update here after.
