MTA no longer starts in XG 16.01.2

Basically, problem boils down to this:

Probably related, in <email> tab <mail spool> I do have a single message in queue , but I'm unable to delete it
"Few of the selected Emails could not be deleted because they are being resent"

I already tried toggling between Avira and Sophos AV.

Any hints welcome

I have the same problem since yesterday.

MTA service status is STOPPED.

I cannot send and receive e-mail.

I only use Sophos for incoming mail, so outgoing at least works

I ran upgrade to 16.05.2 MR-2 , after that mailflow worked.....for about an hour.

Now I got 10 pages worth of email stuck in "mail spool"

Did they ever resolve this issue for you? I have a customer that is having this same problem currently. Support at this stage does not know what the cause is.

we have experienced this too after we upgraded to MR2, please see my other thread: https://community.sophos.com/products/xg-firewall/f/email-protection/88863/smtp-quarantine-total-utilization#pi2132219853=3

after we have upgraded to MR2, we cannot send out emails but after we reverted back to MR1, everything worked fine again.

Is this a known bug in the MR2 release?

Has anyone tried: (can't do it myself remote)
Save configuration, reinstall from scratch, restore config.

This might "solve" mail stuck in queue, quarantaine or log full trouble

I have not but I got my customer hooked up with Level 2 Support and they could not make heads or tails of the issue... MTA just randomly dying. They decided to "shotgun" it and issued a RMA for the appliance (XG210, about a year old), and when he replaced it today (restoring the config from the old box) it worked fine. Support did not suggest reloading the box.. said it must be bad hardware. I found that hard to believe as everything else on this box worked fine (using all the features except RED and Site to Site VPN) -- but either way it is resolved. I wouldn't be surprised if a reload from ISO and restore of config would be a fix. Something got corrupted somewhere...
