Sophos XG - Initial Setup - Activation Problem

Hello guys,

i have a problem at the inital setup. If i want to activate the device the following error occurs:
"Internet connectivity OK but unable to contact licensing system. This may be due to a network issue. Please check your network set up and connections and try again."

MySetup
ESXi 6 Host (dedicated server from servdiscount)

Network:
vSwitch0 connected to the SophosVM (port 2) and to the vmnic0
vSwitch1 connected to the SophosVM (port 1) and to an clientVM
IPs: 1 for Host and an addional IP for the SophosXG (the additional ip is set to virtualization-ip (bridged) on the webend of servdiscount)
Gateway, netmask and dns are the same for both ips

What could be the problem? Any ideas?

Thank you for your answers!

  • Daniel,

Use the cli to see if you can ping www.google.it from XG console....also even the computer that you are using to manage the XG activation is able to surf on internet.

    Thanks

  • Tanks for your fast answer!

Before i have done this i testet a second vm with linux on vSwitch0 with the same network configuration as the XG (at this time XG was turned of)
result with this temp-vm: no problems with internet connection
Now the temp-vm is turned off an the XG-vm is back online and i set the same network settings the same error occurs ...

I tried to ping google but there are no packets received. When i look at the network configuration (from XG console) of the wan port there is dhcp activated but on the webfrontend i set this to static?!

  • Daniel use the cli options (first option) to change the wan ip and try the ping again. Remember that wan and LAN port must have different ip unless you configure XG as bridged.

    Regards

  • lferrara, I tried this way, but the cli only let me change the LAN ip and only show the Port2 (WAN) ip's.
Is there another way to change the WAN-ip? (e.g. config-file?)
