DDNS is not Updating

The built-in DDNS *.myfirewall.co is not getting update after sometime. "Error : DDNS Service in currently unavailable". This may force us to reboot the firewall in order to make the service up and running again. It's always happen twice in a month.

After the reboot of firewall, ddns starts to work without any problem for maybe 10-15 days as I monitored.

Note : Other DDNS provided such as dyndns is functioning w/o any issue.

Hi Shan,

Sophos DDNS requires, WINGc should be connected to WINGs. WINGc is the web categorization service used in XG.

Since the DDNS update for Sophos propagates through WING channel. When the WINGc couldn't connect to WINGs as the DNS resolution fails then, the service will be unavailable until it is connected back. This is not a bug but intended behavior.

Check #4.1.2 in my guide here. See that the DNS settings on XG are up2date.

Same issue here ddns stops updating until rebooted

Could you DM me the logs from your system

Go to shell access and type the command or copy paste it .

cat /log/WINGc.log | grep myfirewall

cat /log/WINGc.log

cat /log/ddc.log

this is getting so annoying now....

Anyone else having this issue or is it only handful of people, I am having to reboot either every few hrs or if lucky 24 hrs.

Hi,

As per the provided logs from you to Aditya, the logs state that WingS servers are not resolved on your XG.

Nov 29 19:36:12.362252 [ERR] post_connect_to_wings() not resolved 'peak.wing.sophosxl.net' due to 'lookup failure'

Nov 29 19:36:12.362257 [MSG] connect_to_server() Gonna resolve 'peak.wing.sophosxl.net'

Nov 29 19:36:12.362438 [ERR] number of ip's '0'

What is the DNS settings configured in XG? Also, is there a device/router that is somehow causing this issue. If this isn't the case then I would recommend you to contact support who can generate a request with the internal DCO team to check the servers.

Hi,

No other device other than the Sophos XG.

It is currently setup with google DNS's

Unfortunately I cant log a call as I am using a home license.

Any chance you can check the connectivity using a different ISP/3G-UMTS and DNS resolvers?

Hi I will wait for it to fail again and before rebooting or re-adding the DDNS entry I will change the dns resolvers to ISP provided ones and update. Thanks
