Bug in Sophos AP55 and throughput on 5ghz.

I have a couple of AP55 (brand new) and an AP55c. The AP55c is connected to a UTM 9.4 and the 5ghz shows channel 36.

The AP55 is connected to the XG and the 5ghz channel is 36.

The bug is the scanning function does not work the devices are within 3 metres of each other.

I tried another solution by forcing the AP55 to channel 140, but the Mac cannot see it, so I took the channel down to 44. The throughput on the 5ghz band is abysmal 6mb/s.

Somebody please tell me what I am doing wrong with respect to the 5ghz band and Sophos APs. Under previous versions of utm9 this was not an issue.

  • Hi Sachin,

I don't think it is an AP55 issue because I also experience the same issue with my older AP55c which is way out of warranty.

I will need data to justify an RMA. I have two AP55s one on the XG and one on the UTM and both experience a similar issues.

The issue really points at a software issue with the controller software in both cases. Why, because I used to be able to get over 300mb/s through the old AP55c on 5ghz and consistent 144mb/s on 2.4ghz through the AP10 and AP55c.

The hardware has been changed for the XG but no affect on the default throughput.

I bough the 2 AP55 to prove that the issue is a software one in the XG and UTM.

I will submit a request for an RMA and see what happens.

  • I have submitted a request for an RMA, provided the additional information required and heard nothing since.

I have tried a followup email message, but still no answer.
