AP15 loses connection every 1-2 days

Hi there,

right now I am using the XG (SFOS 15.01.0 MR-3) Firewall and like it so far, but I have an irritating problem with my AP15.

I added the access point about 2 weeks ago and I do have to reset (remove power) of the AP15 every 1-2 days,

because the firewall keeps losing the connection to it.

I added a DHCP server for my normal network (Port 1) with static MAC / IP for my AP15 and a DHCP-only client (Chromecast).

My private wifi uses Bridge to AP LAN, whereas my guest wifi (seperate) uses the interface WIFI (with its own DHCP server).

Connectivity and network without problems:

- my wifi devices use static IPs and connect to my private wifi, have access to the other network devices and Internet

- my guests get their own IP addresses via DHCP (interface WIFI) and can't "see" each other, but do have access to Internet

Now every 1-2 days my firewall loses connection to my AP15:

- AP15 still listet, but inactive

- AP15 lost IP from DHCP

Now I have to reset (remove power) from the AP15 and wait a few minutes and sometimes I also have to reset my firewall.

Anyone an idea how to solve this nasty problem?

PS.: AP15 was automatically updated to FW 5.0.0.1 (current version in webinterface) - or do I have to update it manually?!

  • Hi Markus,

Delete the Access Point and the Wireless Network definition. Reconfigure Wireless Network definition and add it in the newly accepted Access Point.

    Thanks

  • Hi sachin,

today the problem occurred again and so I did as you told me:

I deleted the access point, powered it off and deleted the wireless networks (DHCP for guest wifi and its interface was automatically deleted too).

Then I turned the AP15 on, it got discovered, I added it and after a few seconds it received its IP from the DHCP server (static IP - MAC).

Next I recreated my main wireless network and added it to the access point - works!

While creating my guest wifi, I am also asked to create a corresponding DHCP server (this time dynamic with an IP range), added it to the access point and

the interface also showed up in the list.

Now I will have to wait at least two days to find out if this solved the problem.

I am going to keep you up to date :-)

  • Hi sachin,

    it happened again:

The access point lost after about 2 days its connection and I had to power it off and on again.

Any other idea what I could check? Do you think I have to replace the AP15 (it is still under warranty)?

  • Hi Sachin,

my new AP15 is on its way! I am going to give an update asap (after at least 3 days of usage).

Hopefully this will solve my problem.

    Cheers,

    Markus

  • I have been using my new AP15 for about 2 weeks and it still has the same problem after 2 - 5 days.

I am going to check my network infrastructure all over again and hope to find a solution to this very annoying problem.

  • Well, another fews passed by and the problem is not solved yet...

I got a replacement for the AP15, removed the config and AP from the XG several times and

    still its driving me crazy:

dead socket every 1-5 days - this time (first week of October 2016) it stopped working after

5 days, then 3 days and finally after 24 hours...

At the moment its running another 2 days without a problem.

I need a decent solution for this!

  • Hi Markus,

I reverified the information with my internal team and discovered that many similar cases are resolved after upgrading to SFOS-MR3. Also, I do not see anyone else reporting the issue anymore.   I will use my last resort on this and contact the developers. Please wait until my next post.

    Thanks

  • First of all: Belated Happy Birthday! :-)

    Now regarding my case:

I just wanted to remind you that I had been using SFOS-MR3 :-P

Right now I am giving the latest v16 beta a try, but I didn't get better :-/

If you want me to send you some more logs then just let me know.

    Cheers,

    Markus

  • Problem solved with SFOS 16.01.1 and another 5-port switch between main switch and access point (AP15).

    Main switch: HP1920-8G

    Old 5-port: HP 1405-5G

    New 5-port: NETGEAR GS105E-200PES

    Thanks for your help :-)
