XG DHCP...Relay + Server Possible?

After a very long couple of days I have successfully setup an XG 85W with an AP55.  It serves both a "secure" and guest network in a lab environment.  However I had to set the XG up as the DHCP server for both my internal "secure" network and my external guest network.  I could not, even working with Sophos support, get the XG to both work as a DHCP relay for the internal network (which already had a Windows Server 2012 with DHCP role) AND to have it (the XG) function as a DHCP for the guest network.  Support was surprised that this was not workable as the UTM 9's can do this.

Is this possible on the XG or will this be enabled?

Thanks,

-Alex-

  • Alex,

it should work. IF you have 2 wireless networks (bridged to AP LAN for iternal users, and Separate zone) you should be able to configure DHCP relays fro first Wireless network and use XG as DHCP server for separate zone.

  • Unfortunately Sophos support confirmed it is not possible on the xg now:

    "Hello Alex,
That is correct, the UTM can have multiple dhcp servers configured at the same time as a dhcp relay, while the XG only supports one or the other at a time. The UTM isn't going to be retired anytime soon, it should have until the end of the year at the very least, and more likely until the end of 2017 or 2018, we haven't made any announcements for it's retirement yet. That function will probably be added in the next year or so to the XG, but if you submit a feature request it's more likely to be added, and will be implemented faster if a lot of people are interested in it."

Huge issue. Unusable for my clients without this. Hope this gets priority.
