XG Roadmap - Still too early?

Hi All,

2016 is almost there! I think that all of us would like to have some feedback from Sophos about what we will see from 1.5 XG release (January ?) and 2.0 in the middle of this year.

Even a simple shortlist of major features that will be released and specially bug fixes. We have feature.astaro.com website but "Planned" does not means next release.

[A]

Thanks.

Luk

  • Remember that XG is simply Cyberroam v11...(ie Cyberroam v10 with a new GUI)

If you do some sleuthing you can dig up Cyberroam roadmaps for 2016/2017. That should give you a good idea of what you have in store for cyberroam/XG updates.
  • Agreed. But as Luk pointed out, some kind of interaction from sophos would be nice specially when sophos seems to indicate that both UTM/Cyberoam will be combined into ONE single product. I have been sticking with the UTM and was going to wait till a more stable release from sophos before jumping over to XG but a total disregard of their user base on these forums is irritating to say the least.

Most of the responses on the UTM forums are from previous astaro.org mods and it seems that on the XG forums, its the users that are trying to help each other mostly. Few sophos employees pop up here and there for certain answers but its mostly a figure it out yourself operation. With the disastrous documentation that comes with XG, you would think that they would have atleast a couple of mods monitoring posts on their greatest firewall release and have a few answers but all I see is the IGNORE strategy that they employed after destroying astaro.org.

Free firewall is nice to have but if nobody can use the darn thing and even the stuff that is working is perceived as non working /BUG, people will move on to something else. Maybe that is what sophos wants in the end anyway? Time will tell I guess.
  • Hi BillyBob,
not wanting to put a damper on the discussion/thread because I agree entirely about the lack of response/support by the developers for a very new product in this forum. Also the migration to the new BB has killed most of the dynamics and support from the Astaro board.
Folks, the is a rough quote from the Astaro board, these forums are primarily a user to user forum and the devs come here in their spare time excpet during a beta. Seeing that most users consider XG to be in beta where are the devs providing support and asking questions about configurations.
  • Agreed. I for one am keeping my options open and reviewing other products for both business and personal home use. 2016 is going to be an interesting year for us. Sophos better pull there ear plugs out and start listing and saying something soon.
