XG Roadmap - Still too early?

Hi All,

2016 is almost there! I think that all of us would like to have some feedback from Sophos about what we will see from 1.5 XG release (January ?) and 2.0 in the middle of this year.

Even a simple shortlist of major features that will be released and specially bug fixes. We have feature.astaro.com website but "Planned" does not means next release.

Thanks.

Luk

  • Hi lferrara,

according to my information, some one decided that version v1.5 will NOT be released. And v2.0 release is planned for mid Q2.

Unfortunately, about a planned features in v2.0 nothing new.

  • Thank you Alda.
We need to get some official public information. No way to sell XG at the moment. My hope was to sell and test XG after 1.5 (bug fixes and some new features) on some "friend" customer but the chance is very far away.
I have some potential customer that can swap to Sophos but no multiple AD support at the moment (only XG but other features are missing).
So we need to wait and be patient for still long time!

  • Hi lferrara,

I suppose you are working in some company as a Sophos partner / reseller / distributor. I can only recommend you to contact a pre-sales department, but based on my past experience with XG development, they do not know absolutely nothing concrete. And if you learn something specific, then be sure of that in less than a month, everything is different (my very last experience with v1.5).

Maybe ask Mr. Alan Toews about a short comment? He is (to me), probably the only one person who will know about the current status v2.0 and future development of new features. I ( maybe we ) could only with tears in our eyes to remember how Angelo led the UTM v9.x development.

If I compare the level of development UTM v9.x vers. XG, then I can not find any single positive thing ....

  • Hi guys, how far off are we from this roadmap from earlier this year. I can see we are already behind on UTM9.4 and also copernicus initial release seemed like it ran a little behind. In this roadmap, v2 copernicus comes almost 3 months after so hopefully it will be February/March 2016. I know Luk had mentioned a release date of end of January for v1.5, lets hope there is a 1.5 release before v2.

With all the devs from india that sophos acquired with cyberoam purchase, I hope they will follow a very aggressive update schedule but I could be wrong. Waiting on what you guys find out...

  • Hello BillyBob,

your picture is from Q1 roadmap, I think. Let's say that in the last roadmap ( October - November 2015 ) everything is compared to your picture shifted by one quarter later. Was decided that XG v1.5 is because sufficient time for the development of v2.0 canceled.

I'm sorry, but I can not be more specific. The last roadmap is under NDA, as always.

Unfortunately, my own experience with the developers of India ( during Copernicus Partner Beta ) does not fulfill me as to the quality of the development of great optimism.

  • This is some really piss poor information, I understand you may be under NDA but we need some communication from Sophos.
  • I do not want to imagine who bought XG and do not have/receive any sort of answer. Now more developers are available but before they can really merge it requires at least 2 years.
I do not complain with that but at least some few words from Sophos informing customers and followes what is happening and what will happen into next future (roadmap, bug fixes, features and so on). AlanT disappeared!
This situation remember me what happened with astaro.org website. My opinion? Lack of information.
So do not be impressed if customers will choose another product!!!!
On this community sometimes some Sophos's guys appear and answer (sometimes). Some strange behaviour with XG exist and we do not get an answer (for example updates every 2/3 days, pop3 not working, etc...)

    This is really really sad!!!!

  • Remember that XG is simply Cyberroam v11...(ie Cyberroam v10 with a new GUI)

If you do some sleuthing you can dig up Cyberroam roadmaps for 2016/2017. That should give you a good idea of what you have in store for cyberroam/XG updates.
  • Agreed. But as Luk pointed out, some kind of interaction from sophos would be nice specially when sophos seems to indicate that both UTM/Cyberoam will be combined into ONE single product. I have been sticking with the UTM and was going to wait till a more stable release from sophos before jumping over to XG but a total disregard of their user base on these forums is irritating to say the least.

Most of the responses on the UTM forums are from previous astaro.org mods and it seems that on the XG forums, its the users that are trying to help each other mostly. Few sophos employees pop up here and there for certain answers but its mostly a figure it out yourself operation. With the disastrous documentation that comes with XG, you would think that they would have atleast a couple of mods monitoring posts on their greatest firewall release and have a few answers but all I see is the IGNORE strategy that they employed after destroying astaro.org.

Free firewall is nice to have but if nobody can use the darn thing and even the stuff that is working is perceived as non working /BUG, people will move on to something else. Maybe that is what sophos wants in the end anyway? Time will tell I guess.
