PPPoE very slow with Sophos XG Firewall

Hello,

i am using PPPoE on WAN, with a FritzBox as DSL-modem. The VDSL speed is 100 MBit/s. But after PPPoE login i have only 2,4 Mbps download speed. The Problem is not the VDSL-connection in itself. The CPU and RAM workload is okay. I can give no account of it. What can i do to increase the connection speed?

  • I used to think the same, but after some changes I can now download at modem speed, which in my case isn't very fast about 4mbs give or take rainstorm. I changed to clientless users and I can't remember what else.

ok, is there someone else who solved the problem? I still don't know what to do exactly. Now i am using XG Firewall. On UTM 9 i not had that problem.
    What means "clientless users"?
Maybe the cause is in the client "enduser protection" software and not in the XG Firewall itself?

  • I was a little bit scared that this is also true for me. But I had luck.
Got today my VDSL line. 50MBit/10Mbit. (But to line length 37MBit/10Mbit)
Did a factory reset of the FritzBox (To get PPPoE pass-thru, not yet on 6.50)
Configured a port on my Firewall to PPPoE, set MTU to 1492 and MSS to 1444 in Advances Settings.
Tested again and I still get 37MBit/10Mbit.
  • I had this same problem. I've had my XG105W connected for 2 days and all of sudden this morning when everyone started accessing the internet it became very slow and eventually dropped the connection. I rebooted XG and DSL and worked for about 30 min, then same thing very slow for a while then drop. I changed the MTU to 1492 and MSS to 1444 and so far it has been just fine. Don't understand that, but seems to have worked for now.

sorry, unfortunately no solution for me.
I did an update on the FritzBox 7490 to the brand-new firmware 06.50. Then did setup the 1&1 dsl internet connection over FritzBox (without XG Firewall) to see whether the dsl-connection generally is fine. Result: Everything is OK: DSL-Connection with full VDSL-100 power. So there is no generally problem with the FritzBox and behind.
After that i did a factory reset on FritzBox and changed the cable installation back to the config "XG Firewall with FritzBox as DSL-modem".
Set MTU to 1492 and MSS to 1444 on XG Firewall and connected over PPPoE.
And, ahhhhh, still the same problem!: Speed not over 2.5 Mbps.
    Other solution tips?
  • Try looking for your QOS settings, might have been accidentally changed to a lower value.

  • i have checked this: QoS settings are ok
    still at a snail's pace, 2.5 Mbps.
Even if i disable all scanning settings there is no higher speed.
  • Hi,
what we have't discussed is your hardware eg cpu, memory, NICs and disk space?
