Can not log in after installation

I decide to try this product as i have spare Intel hardware at home. Now everything seems to go correctly with installation. I have this one PC in SOphos lan and Wan in own port. Iam writing this thru my new Sophos machine. Monitor is prompting password. I have dhcp connection to 172.16.16.16 gateway, but then comes triky part. I can not get into web admin section at all. Regular htttp side states time out error and https side is telling me that its refusing such a port and connection.

I tried to find all question related to this but no luck. I just cant make initial log in. Now is there some trick to do it or should i just aband this product right at beginning?

Now i left everytinhg on for the night but yet in morning no luck.

Thanks for the help, or i did try with Chrome and firefox

  • Thanks but obviously i have tested this about 120 times. Very many different combos. I think the NICs are working as i can get traffic throuh, but web login wont come up. This particurlaly is giving error " ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED". I guess this is just not working and i might try old 9.xxx series and see if that works.
  • Can you plug a screen into the box the xg is installed on and see what it says there?
  • It just says that everything is normal..." 2 Core 3000 memory 3 NIC..." And then its blinking password
  • You need a different NIC (LAN card). That error indicates that your LAN interface is not setup correctly on the XG.

  • But how come i can connect through that same NIC? I have one with WAN one with LAN and through this XG i can connect. But yet its not possible to log into web interface and configure this firewall. I used some free tool to see open ports and its indicating that 4444 is not open for any connections...? I quess there is no fix for this kind of problem, as its even very hard to regonize, when its saying everytihng is ok and 3 NIC found. So this is just for some special NICs or something what they are using themselves?
  • Make sure your nics are set properly. NIC 1 should be the LAN and NIC 2 should be WAN. Also make sure you give the machine you are using to login a static address of something on the same subnet as the firewall. I usually punch in a random 4th octet like 172.16.16.100.

The XG does not have DHCP enabled by default so a static IP is required to access the device for initial setup.

  • HI Every one, i seem to have the same issue, cannot login after installation, this box was setup about a month back, everything was working, then browsing stopped, i checked the console, everything looked fine.  i was able to ping the box but not able to access the web interface.  i then reinstalled the firmware, same thing, no access to the web interface, can ping to the box default ip and i am also getting a dhcp address from the box with an ip of 172.16.16.17/24.  i guess the firmware is broken.

    Sophos team.  Any ideas.

  • Hello Everyone,

I had the same issue with my new box i made for my home network, it was working perfectly, all of a sudden i lost access to the web portal, tried renistalling a dozen times on three different drive, no luck.  Then i burned a DVD of the Copernicus Beta and installed it on the system, i got the console back, configured everything. Definitely a problem with the current version which Sophos team needs to address immediately.  UTM 9 still rocks. :)

The Firmware update centre shows that there is an update available to the current version, it downloaded but refuses to install.  Sophos team.. Whats up.. looks like they are taking steps backwards after the beta.. wakeup guys. address our issues. it will only help you make ur product better for your commercial users.

  • Just had the same issue after doing a factory reset on my XG 135 Firewall.  After the reset the box came back up, and I got a 172.16.16.17 IP address from the LAN port on the firewall.  I've tried 3 different laptops, Chrome and Firefox, and I cannot get to the login page.  It looks like the reset broke the web server on the firewall.

Has anybody found a workaround for this yet?
