SSKM reset, problems with new backups

Hi there,
i have successfully reset the SSKM as described here.

Reset secure storage master key - Sophos Firewall


Created new backup and tried to restore it on replacement firewall.
But i get the error message that the SSKM is wrong.
Do i have to restart the firewall where this SSKM reset was done ?

    this is a new case, Case ID: 06394726
    It is a different Sophos XG 230, with this FW a SSKM reset was performed and a new backup was generated.
    The problem is that on the replacement firewall, on which this backup is to be restored,
    the error message is displayed that the SSKM key is incorrect.

    Thank you for the correction.

    • Do the two FW have the same Firmware version?
    • Have you tried to Reset the SSKM again and then re-do another backup and try to upload on the replacement FW

    I think i have found the bug.
    On the appliance where this SSKM reset was performed, the backup mode was set to "Email".
    After i switched to "Local" and saved the change, the newly created backup was encrypted with the new SSKM key.
    Either there is a problem with the backup mode "Email" or it was enough to simply save the backup again.

    That is great to hear. To verify, you didn’t encounter any more errors once the local backup was restored to the replacement Firewall.

    Also, I've seen that you have also updated your case with your findings.Kindly update us if you still encounter any more errors.
