VLAN on WAN Port

Hello,

i have a problem with the internet connection on physical port WAN with additional vlan (zone LAN). I tried to change the physical port to an dummy ip and zone DMZ and create two vlans 1 (WAN) and 40 (LAN). My router recognizes the IP address of VLAN 1.

But the gateways is always offline.

What do I have to set so that the gateway is online again?

  • Hi,

you cannot use VLAN 1 it is for administrative purposes. I assume you are setting up a VLAN on your WAN interface to allow management of the router?

  • No, I want the vlan 1 for internet connection. I know vlan 1 is the default, but i tried to add to my WAN port3 only vlan 40. But i havent a internet connection, too.

So I thought the physical port3 (WAN) have a problem and added another vlan 1.

  • Please do not use vlan 1. Why can't you use the WAN physical interface to your router?

What exactly are you trying to achieve?

  • I want to use my physical WAN Port to connect with my router. And the VLAN 40 (zone LAN) to connect with an client.

But my gateway in the sophos is offline, so my client and the sophos have no internet connection.

  • I think you are confusing things? Leave the wan port connected to your router. Your switch has different ports tagged but only one port connects to the XG?

is the client supposed to be protected by the XG?

  • yes, only one port (port1 from switch to port3 WAN) is connected to the XG. I can only connect the client over the switch with an vlan to the xg.
The client is behind the XG gets a IP adress from the XG from the vlan 40. This works, but it has no internet connection.

  • Do you have a rule in place to allow the PC access to the internet?

I would definitely change from VLAN 1 to VLAN 2 then look at your router to see if any traffic is arriving on th internal interface.

  • Yes, if I use a WAN Port without an VLAN the internet connection works.
Ok, i will test another VLANID.

    Update:
I tested now with another VLANID and didnt work, too. So I connected the XG (port2 WAN without VLAN) to the netgear port 4 which have the default VLAN. This didnt work, too.
So I tested another netgear switch without any vlan configurations. I connected to XG on port2 WAN without VLAN and it works.

I think the XG have a problem with the netgear switch with vlan configuration.

  • Or the Netgear is not a good VLAN citizen?

  • you think its a bug? I can create a vlan with another netgear switch.... Maybe it s a firmeware problem.
