WinSCP can't access log folder

Any ideas, using WinSCP to access my XG 19.0.1 firewall on my LAN.   Can authenticate fine with admin.   Can browse and transfer most files.  However, /log/ or /var/tslog/ give me "Error 2 - permission denied."  If I copy log files from /log to another folder (/tmp, etc) i CAN access and transfer those file to my PC with WinSCP.

pscp -scp gives me exactly the same exact same error for /log/ - access denied.

Thnaks!

  • Hello!

The user which you use to connect over SSH (WinSCP) is a separate "admin" user, not root. The reason on why you get permission denied is because the "admin" user doesn't have write permission over almost anywhere which isn't "/tmp".

But you should be able to fetch any file from "/log" over SSH without any issues since the admin user does have read permission over there.

Does this issue only happens with WinSCP for you?

    Thanks!

  • the problem happens with WinSCP and the pscp command line on Windows.  I was following the KB located here:

    https://support.sophos.com/support/s/article/KB-000035842?language=en_US

I can SSH fine to the firewall.  How would I fetch files with SSH, would I have to push them to a local windows sftp server or copy them to /tmp and have WinSCP fetch them that way?

    thanks so much!
