What are "half" releases (x.5.x) compared to "regular" releases (x.0.x)?

I'm just trying to get clarification on what constitutes a "full" number increase (v18 to v19, for example), versus a "half" increase (v19.0 to v19.5, for example). Trying to decide if we should be going forward with v19.0.x vs. v19.5.x. Is it just minor additional features? It seems like the "full" releases get patches faster (v19.0.1 came out in July, whereas v19.5.1 came out in September.) But if these versions don't actually reflect parity, then it's a moot point.

  • Hello ,

Thank you for reaching out to the community, there are different release, one is global, maintenance and then EAP [Early Access Programs]

Early access programs let you try out new product features before we release them to all customers.

You can take part in more than one program at the same time.
There are two types of early access program:

    • Open. Anyone can take part.
    • Invitation only. We invite you to take part in the program and send you the code you need for access.
    • As the product features are in development, they are subject to change.

    Thanks & Regards,

  • Sorry, I must have mis-looked at it. You're right, the newest EAP is v19.5, not v19.5.1. Does this mean that v19.5 will take the place of v19.0.2? I've been waiting on a supposed bug fix for v19.0.1 (IPSec hardware acceleration, NC-101716), and the last I heard it was to be fixed in v19.0.2.

  • Our policy is we support the last 2 major versions, so when v19.5 gets released after EAP, v19.0 will still be supported and MR2 for it will still be released.
