XG RED unified firmware enabled vs not enabled

https://docs.sophos.com/nsg/sophos-firewall/19.0/Help/en-us/webhelp/onlinehelp/AdministratorHelp/SystemServices/RED/index.html

For XG's on SFOS 19.0.1 MR-1-Build365 + RED firmware 3.0.008 with "Use RED unified firmware" not enabled and "Firewall RED Server" or "Firewall RED Client" selected on all RED interfaces, are there performance or functionality advantages to be gained by enabling unified firmware?   If it is not consistently enabled at both the client and server XG sides will connectivity be impacted?

  • I had actually come across the post you referenced earlier but was looking for clarity around what differences to expect.  The knowledgebase article states "RED unified firmware offers the latest features" and in the older forum post "Unified firmware brings together the code trains into one release which means it is simpler to maintain and update."  So are there any potential gains in terms of functionality or performance on the XG consumer side or is the benefit really only on the XG/RED development side?  What would the latest features be on 3.0.008 if any?
