Lack of critical component in KVM images

Sophos provides images for a variety of virtual environments, including those dedicated to KVM. Unfortunately, the images for KVM do not include a critical component, the qemu-guest-agent, which communicates with the hypervisor providing the ability to realize consistent snapshots and backups of the VM. Can I ask for a reason for the decision not to provide this functionality in a platform-dedicated image?

Best regards,

Maciej

  • Hi ,

It's not even about snapshots. Without this agent, the appliance does not recognize the shutdown or restart signal executed from the hypervisor. This causes the hypervisor to wait indefinitely for the virtual machine to shut down or alternatively perform a hard shutdown on it, which again is dangerous because of the risk of guests (Sophos Firewall) file system corruption.

    Best regards,

    Maciej
