Trying to install XG Home on XG 115 rev.2 appliance

I've recently gotten an XG 115 rev.2 off eBay and have tried to install the XG Home version software on it (SW-19.0.0_GA-317.iso), but cannot get it to work.

I've tried all of the following and cannot get it to work:

- The ubuntu method here (https://hifish.ch/en/2022/03/20/sophos-xg-home-on-a-sophos-appliance/) where I fully installed Ubuntu in hopes of it updating the MBR during the partitioning. Fully installed Ubuntu, and still got the "detected sophos physical device please get proper installation source" error.

- I tried this (https://community.sophos.com/sophos-xg-firewall/f/discussions/119814/xg-home-on-xg-115-rev3-appliance) several times where I deleted all the partitions, created an ext4 and a fat32 partition and neither would work.

- Also tried this (https://community.sophos.com/sophos-xg-firewall/f/discussions/96731/install-xg-home-on-xg-appliance---how-to) several times and couldn't get it to work.

So, now I'm thinking the next step is to swap out the SSD to get it to work but I REALLY don't want to have to do that, especially because so many people on here and on Reddit are saying it's not necessary.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

  • Swapping out the ssd is the quickest and simplest fix or taking the ssd out and hard formatting it to remove the sophos proprietary data which is stoping you from installing the software.
