Xg210 Load Balancing setup

 Hi,

I have an XG 210 (SFOS 19.0.0 GA-Build317)  with 2 ISP connections (A-30mpbs & B-120mpbs)

I am trying to setup load balancing for my network. I calculated the weight: A=1, B=3 and setup it up in wan link manager according to what I read

When I do a speed test, I get A's speed.

Further reading shows that I need to setup a NAT rule to select the load balance method

However it is greyed out and I can not change it. Tried creating new rule (cloned) and adding a new NAT rule, but that didn't work

I assume that I am reading old documentation since the changes to the OS/NAT rules

Can any one help me setup the load balancing properly?

thanks

David

  • Update:

"set routing wan-load-balancing weighted-round-robin ip-family all" in XG console

My speed test increased above 20mpbs but is inconsistent.

Is there a way to calculate what speed I should expect when using load balancing?

How do I know the load balancing is actually working?

  • Load balancing is simply a method of choosing one of those interfaces.

This means, it is not "combining" the traffic. Instead it is about "Which interface should i use for this "new" connection.

    See: https://docs.sophos.com/nsg/sophos-firewall/18.5/Help/en-us/webhelp/onlinehelp/AdministratorHelp/Routing/Gateways/RoutingLoadBalancingWeights/index.html

In V19.0 you can setup this criteria even more granular by telling the firewall not to use connection based on packet lost.

But from a technical perspective, you cannot get 150 mbit/s. Some speed tests are misleading. They use "Multiple Connections". Means, the firewall can use for connection 1 interface one and connection 2 interface two. This results into "150 mibt/s" but most connections/apps does not work that way. You have one single download and it will "tied to one interface".
