High reponse time on WAN ports

Hello!

For the last few weeks, I am "searching for the truth", about what is actually happening with my client XG86.
The thing is, that we have very big losses in packets (over 20% when it works, when more losses occur my client is cut out from the internet actually). Response time for ping sometimes it is at a normal state like 20ms, but more often it is around more than 1000ms. As a result, IpSec VPNs are down, OpenSSL VPN sometimes works, TeamViewer sessions sometimes works poorly, but most often doesn't work at all, not to say about the rest of the services that the client is using.

We have there 2 broadbands, one is DSL, second is a 4G LTE from a cellular provider. The problem is being visible on both of the WAN connections.

I've been restarting, reverting the firmware versions and so on, but I still did not find the problem. Can you please help me?

  • I believe that I've found the root cause of that behavior. In a front of the Sophos XG, my client has Huwawei LTE 4G router. As long as that router was working in a 'router mode', all was fine. When I reconfigured it to the 'bridge mode' to have a public IP on Sophos interface instead of Huwawei interface, all problems arose. Response time began to be very high, timeouts in ping were very common and internet speed fell from 90Mbps to 20Mbps (in time when Internet was working, which wasn't that obvious after that).

For now I do not know why those problems occurred. Is it a problem with Huwawei router, or with Sophos... I don't know. But I have a plan to install pfsense on some unused machine and test that solution on that router. If it will work, then I will have my answer.

  • Hi,

I would check the XG WAN interface is set to auto-negotiate.
