Get firmware version from backup file

In theory this is possible. The file is encrypted and you could decrypt it by using the same. But what is the use case? You should keep Up2Date and if you do a disaster recovery, use the newest version as ISO. 

We manage 100s of firewalls and it's not always practical to have them all on the latest version at releases date. It's probably a discussion we could have in another thread, but in relation to decryption - how? The firewall encrypts the backups, I'm not sure what encryption method etc it uses, do you know so then I can try some tools to decrypt? 

Not sure if this is public or not about the decryption. You might find this by searching in the community.

thanks guys, I've sorted it. I'd like to post the answer here, and personally don't think that should be a problem, however I've had posts removed before for a lot less, so only with LuCar Toni's blessing shall I reply with the full command.

It is about Security of the product itself. If you start to decrypt a backup, the backup is decrypted somewhere. This raises a lot of potentially security issues. I would not recommend to do this. 

It is the same issue like Private Keys in Certificates /SSH keys. By simply placing this kind of data somewhere, you open potential security risks. 

Just think about a attacker gaining access to your system. He can find a decrypted full configuration of your firewall.

I think LuCar Toni was addressing the issue that if you share the technique, others will do it and leave sensitive data unsecured on their laptops -- perhaps not realizing all that a backup contains. Sort of the two sides to a coin.
