Sophos XGS Home support for Intel I211-AT Nic and Intel I225-V Nic

Hi,

I am looking into buying hardware for a Sophos XG Home solution with the SW-18.5.1_MR-1-326 firmware.

The options I am considering at the moment are the following 2:

HSIPC J1900 4c; 8 GB RAM; 128 GB SSD; 4 * Intel I211-AT Nic
HSIPC J4125 4c; 8 GB RAM; 256 GB SSD; 4 * Intel I225-V Nic

The J4125 CPU has better performance and AES encryption / decryption hardware acceleration.

The thing that I can not find a clear answer to on the community is support for the Intel Nic's that are being used for these devices.

Is there anyone that knows this or even better has experience with this?

I am planning to use all the security options so I think the J4125 solution would fit better. What do you think about this? My internet connection is 200/200 Mb.

Kind regards,

Roger

  • Hi,

intel NICs, anything but i219 series are supported.

At this set the home version does not use the AES encryption function on the cpu and neither do the low end XG series hardware.

The j4125 will run rings around the j1900.

  • Hi Ian,

Do you use a j4125 yourself?

Did you use NIPS / SSL Inspection with if? If so what is your max throughput?

    Kind regards,

    Roger

  • Hi Roger,

my current link is 50/20 (54/19 in reality). I can saturate the link with one download. Previously I had a 100/40 which I could also saturate with one down load.

I have spare box I built using a j1900, but management GUI was too slow for me so I restored the Xeon.

I currently use a Xeon as per my signature with SSL/TLS enabled.

Looks like my signature has gone missing again.
