Sophos XGS Home support for Intel I211-AT Nic and Intel I225-V Nic

Hi,

intel NICs, anything but i219 series are supported.

At this set the home version does not use the AES encryption function on the cpu and neither do the low end XG series hardware.

The j4125 will run rings around the j1900.

Did you use NIPS / SSL Inspection with if? If so what is your max throughput?

my current link is 50/20 (54/19 in reality). I can saturate the link with one download. Previously I had a 100/40 which I could also saturate with one down load.

I have spare box I built using a j1900, but management GUI was too slow for me so I restored the Xeon.

I currently use a Xeon as per my signature with SSL/TLS enabled.

It looks like the Intel I225-V is currently not supported. By chance I bought the HSIPC J4125 with the I225-V 2.5 Gbe interfaces and tried to install both the v19 EAP2 and the v18.5MR2 on it. Both versions could not find any interfaces. For testing, I installed the current OPNsense (v22.1), which recognized the interfaces correctly.

Has anyone had the opposite experience?

I reviewed the intel site and found the i-225v would appear to be an updated version of the i-219. Both are specified as pc/client devices and based on that, Sophos does not offer support for basically home/end user networking hardware, this is my opinion only.

you are right, i have asked sophos Support, they confirmed the I225-V isn't supported yes.

SW-18.5.2_MR-2-380 uses 4.14.38 kernel. AFAIK I225-V (igbc.ko kernel module) is supported from 5.x kernels. Btw, I wonder what Sophos uses in their hardware 2.5GE, for example XGS 136?

I'm not sure about this, but I believe on the XGS Series the NPU (Marvell Octeon) is what's handling the network.
