Supermicro E300-12C Sophos Home Build

Built a new Supermicro E300-12C setup with a i3 and dual 10gbe SPF+ NIC card.  Went to boot to USB and it hangs when trying to install immediately.  After many hours of searching I have come to the conclusion as many where it does not seems UEFI Bios systems are compatible with Sophos XG Home setups.  Unfortunately the bird cannot boot to legacy bios so I’m stuck at where to go from here.  Has anyone had any luck at all installing or running XG Home on a UEFI system?

  • Hi,

does there BIOS have a non UEFI option. If you have another motherboard with a none UEFI BIOS you could install to that then move the disk to your preferred device or even build a temporary VM. A further issue will be your NICs, one of the onboard ones is not compatible with XG and the 10gbe NICs, how have yo determined they are compatible.

Your best bet would be to build a VM and install the XG on that. I have not found SuperMicro MBs to be very convertible with XG or the UTM in the past, the leave out see timing hardware.

  • Thanks Ian.

Confirmed my MB is ONLY UEFI.

I really have no idea if the NIC card is compatible or not as I didn’t even think that would be an issue.  Here is the card.

10Gb SFP+ PCI-E Network Card NIC, with Broadcom BCM57810S Chip, Dual SFP+ Port, PCI Express X8, Support Windows Server /Linux/VMware https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06X9T683K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_MD3JJ7ZZ9A0WKKWMRCC2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

also decided I may be better off installing vSphere Hypervisor from VMware and then downloading the XG Home VMware image and going that route.
