XGnnnW (and XGS) models in network/server enclosures

One of my clients has a XG115w installed in a rackmount enclosure. Since they use the this WLAN only for guest internet access there were no connection issues reported. However, I am wondering about the reliability of such a setup since the antenna is inside the enclosure which acts as a cage being grounded. Does anyone experienced any connectivity issues and if so what can be/ has been done about it? (external antenna, move the XG outside the enclosure, ???)

  • If you are saying the unit is mounted inside a metal cabinet, then yes that would pose a problem, a problem for any wireless device.  You can relocate the unit outside of the cabinet, or deploy a separate wireless AP outside the cabinet.

  • Thanks for your reply, BrucekConvergent . Both options I did consider already and get the following response from our clients: If I need another AP, why should I pay the extra $$ for an internal AP? and If we leave the appliance outside the cabinet, it is exposed to uncontrolled access!

So both options are not desirable. Any other ideas?
