XGnnnW (and XGS) models in network/server enclosures

One of my clients has a XG115w installed in a rackmount enclosure. Since they use the this WLAN only for guest internet access there were no connection issues reported. However, I am wondering about the reliability of such a setup since the antenna is inside the enclosure which acts as a cage being grounded. Does anyone experienced any connectivity issues and if so what can be/ has been done about it? (external antenna, move the XG outside the enclosure, ???)

  • Sorry, but you are fighting the laws of physics -- this is not a Sophos issue per se.  Put ANY wireless AP in a metal cage, and you will diminish its ability to transmit wifi signals.  Rfcat_vk's suggestion of an external aerial might work as well.  Sophos does not sell these, so you'll have to find those on the secondary market.

For such implementations I typically implement a standard firewall and external AP(s).
