Sophos XG Email attachments larger than 1mb is blocked

Hello,

So ive got a problem with an Sophos XG. Basically the Sophos blocks all email attachments larger than 1mb, but only if the email is send from an mobile device.

Ive testet so far : sending an email with a notebook/computer, no problem. Sending it with the normal Outlook app on the smartphone: attachments is blocked, BUT the attachments is not blocked when the email is send via Outlook Web on the smartphone. Testet it on various smartphones.

Ive also seen that a similar question was already posted, but there is no helpful answer in this post.

Can someone tell me if there is a limit set in the Sophos for email attachments sent from a mobile device ?

Its a Sophos XG125 and firmware is : 18.0.5 MR-5-Build586

Opened a ticket at Sophos at the 27.07. but still didnt get a response, even after escalating the ticket.

Thank you

  • Hi,

XG does not limit mail attachments by default, only if you have a specific policy. Web mail is not treated as mail the same as email sent from an application.

So what you are saying is you have a policy in place that limits your attachment size. The policy could be your AD, your anti-virus package on the mobile device.

DO the mobile devices use the same email rule as the LAN attached devices?

You configure the mail attachment size in the email  -> general setting on the GUI.

  • Hi rfcat_vk,

Yes the same policy is used for mobile devices, there´s no extra policy.

Application filter is the Sophos Application Filter Level 4&5 , which im using at other customers aswell and they dont have the problem.
