18.5.0 MR1 manual upload fails

Got excited about MR1 and downloaded it then uploaded to the spare slot via the web interface. It's failed twice now. Both times got an error email:

Alert for XGS87 (SFOS 18.5.0 GA-Build289) ###################
Device Information:
Hostname: #########
Management Interface IP: #########
Date/Time: 2021-08-10 19:31:31
Alert ID: 17512
Message:
Firmware installation failed. Invalid firmware.

I downloaded via the View My Devices (or whatever it's called) method so I would guaranteed get the right file for my device, or so the site recommended.

File name looks weird (18.5.1?): HW-18.5.1_MR-1.SF310-326.sig

Any thoughts? I can see in the disk graph that utilization went from about 20 to about 33% as the file uploaded.

  • Thanks, I've made a ticket. It's weird that every place that all of the central/licensing sites can identify the unit, they clearly say XGS87. Only in what firmware they offer do they seem to deviate. (I'm wondering if this will also keep the XGS87 from seeing the proper update as well.)

  • Thats not correct. SF310 is correct. XGS has SF310. XG/SG has SF300.

All appliance have the same image (XGS87 to XGS6500).

  • I tried this morning for a third time after double-checking the checksum, and this time it was accepted. It's now applying the firmware after "Firmware Validated Successfully", which had failed on the previous two tries. Hopefully the entire thing will succeed.

So it seems that -- at least on low-end appliances -- the validation step can fail under certain circumstances. Perhaps a certain loading level or something.
